DEW JAZZ

I've never really blogged before, but I figured now is a good time to start. 

I'm absolutely loving USC—the music is awesome, I have some great friends, and I've been able to balance out my life well. I've developed a strong relationship with my main two music teachers Bob Mintzer and Jason Goldman and I think I'm really developing well on the saxophone though it's a slow and painstaking process. It's amazing how one week I"ll be really pleased with how things are going, and then the next week all of a sudden I fell like I'm in a major musical rut...they come and go quickly.

I'm really excited right now though because I just got into the Trojan Men a-capella group. The group is fairly young and is the only all male a-capella group at USC. I'm the only new member of the group and I'm really excited to get to be a part of an awesome musical experience as well as a close knit brotherhood. These guys have already accomplished a lot: they made it through to the Vegas round of America's Got Talent last year (only to find out they couldn't go because the next round was during finals...), a couple weeks ago they opened for Britney Spears and Natalie Cole at a concert at the Nokia Center at LA Live next to the Staples Center. This spring we're going to be singing on NPR, going on tour to the east coast, and hopefully beginning to work on our next new album. It is my hope that I will be able to contribute to the group by arranging some new music for them as well as singing and perhaps providing some vocal percussion.

Finally, the Super Bowl is tomorrow!! I'm torn, I've grown up appreciating the Steelers because my Dad is from Pittsburgh, but Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald, and the Cardinals sure have pieced together quite a compelling story. Either way I'm greatly looking forward to kicking back and watching the game.
